I’m Tom Joslin, the founder of TSJ Media and an architectural and interiors photographer working across the wider built environment.

Every photographer needs an origin story. Mine, perhaps rather predictably, begins with borrowing my dad’s camera at a family wedding and spending the day photographing everyone. From then on, family holidays came with the same request: could I take the camera? It may not be the most original beginning, but it is the honest one. Looking back, the clues were already there.

I grew up in a practical and visually minded household, where designing, making and understanding how things worked were simply part of everyday life. When it came to choosing my A-levels, product design and three-dimensional art were natural continuations of subjects I had already studied. Photography was my third choice—and the subject I ran away with.

Looking back, those three disciplines feel less like separate interests and more like an early blueprint for the work I do today. Long before I could define the direction, the same two instincts were already developing side by side: wanting to understand how something had been designed and made, and wanting to interpret it creatively. Photography became the place where those two ways of thinking could meet.

I went on to study Photography at the University of Brighton, graduating in 2022 with First-Class Honours and receiving an award for Outstanding Achievement. I began working professionally that summer, assisting and second-shooting weddings alongside commercial campaign work, while continuing to discover where within photography my own perspective belonged.

In 2023, my professional focus moved decisively towards the built environment when I took on a full-time in-house photography role centred on high-end residential photography and development marketing. Since then, I have photographed premium homes and development projects, working alongside developers and interior designers to communicate design, materiality, craftsmanship and finish.

TSJ Media grew from that foundation with a more focused direction: photography for architecture, interiors and design-led work across the built environment. Alongside my in-house experience, independent commissions through TSJ Media have extended that work into completed-project photography for architectural practices. The studio is built on the belief that understanding how something has been designed, made and experienced leads to stronger, more meaningful photography of it.

Outside commissioned work, photography remains part of how I explore the world around me. I’m drawn to the outdoors, country and blues records, and the design and mechanics behind my classic-inspired kit car. Different interests, but connected by the same attraction to character, material, atmosphere and things made with intent.
